myspace, facebook, bebo... where will it all end?!?

these sites are killing me and yet i somehow can't stay away from them. i have accounts on all three of them. for those of you who don't know, bebo is the myspace of the uk. some of them aren't that bad. on myspace and facebook i get to be connected with people that i know (or knew) and haven't spoken with in ages. of course, there's the odd person (meeg, i'm looking at you here) who i talk to all of the time and still have on facebook (and myspace and bebo). it's ultimately a good thing to be able to reconnect with these people and i'm all for it.
bebo's the weird one, though. other than the few people that i strong-armed into opening bebo pages, i don't know a single one of my "bebo friends" in real life. it sometimes feels like i do, as i've been talking to them on bebo for over a year now, but ultimately i don't actually know them.
why is it that we (cus it's not just me- they all do it, too) feel the need to make friends with people who live half-way around the world and who we will most likely never meet? don't get me wrong, they're nice people, it's all very diverting, etc., but it just seems a little insane.

does anyone else feel like the proliferation of these sites is just a little ridiculous? i have 80+ friends on myspace and even more than that on facebook. how the hell am i meant to keep up with all of them? (oh, and don't get me started on those applications that tell me what my grade in bed is or ask me to take 10 question iq tests online!!). i'm glad to be able to connect with these old friends, i like being able to comment them when i miss them or have something to say, but what ever happened to emails and phone calls? am i a neo-luddite? part of me thinks that it's gone too far and yet as we speak i have all three (myspace, bebo and facebook open on my computer). am i a hypocrite or an addict?

so, what do you think? are these sites good things or bad things? discuss amongst yourselves (and then leave comments to let me know how you feel about it).

much love,
nic

holy crap... dylan moran actually IS bernard black!! (and i think i'm kind of in love with him)

ohhhh dylan! i love you! and how did it come to pass that you actually ARE the hilariously bitter chain smoking drunk irishman i always hoped you really were? i'm sure it's all part of your bit or whatever, but i love that you can maintain it for so long. i know that you're already married (and, well, so am i) but if you ever find yourself in a position wherein you need a girlfriend or someone to just talk at, i'm here for you.

my homage to my rising star... james mcavoy

He's currently starring as one of the most unlikely leading men in one of the biggest movies of the summer alongside angelina jolie. he's a pasty-white red headed glaswegian with a thick accent standing at a whopping 5'7''. the man can't weigh more than a buck 50 (if that!!). and yet somehow he has women all over the world falling all over him (including myself).
it doesn't hurt that he's an amazing actor. i first noticed him in 2004 in the television show 'shameless' (in which he was brilliant- meeg can attest to that). if you haven't seen it, you must rush out and try to get your hands on it ASAP. he then took a turn as mr. tumnus in the chronicles of narnia, one of the highest grossing films ever. and then the real action began...
the last king of scotland. he turned in a magnificent performance and the film was nominated for best film of the year. a year later he kicked it again in atonement, again nominated for best film of the year. now he's going for the leading man thing in wanted.
of course, he's made other films, including an amazing adaptation of Macbeth, but he's now really coming into himself (and if you can believe it, he's only 30).
he's the next big thing- he's the new big thing- and i say that it's about time that we have a leading man who is sensitive and funny and not 6'2'' and built like a body builder. he's a real man, and by that i mean he's just real. he's like you and me. watch interviews with him-- he's humble, funny, affable, well-spoken, and clearly a guy that you'd want to be friends with.
bravo james. i wish you all the success in the world.
i'll be watching!!

katrinaville revistited

so, it's been raining quite a bit here these days (every day in fact). and lately there have been shades of katrina popping up left and right.
just thought i'd share a couple of photos that i took the other day after it rained for about an hour.
let's all just pray that this isn't a sign of things to come this hurricane season...

welcome to katrinaville revisited...

any of this look at all familiar? there are pics i've left out of cars under water. i thought that might be a little too much.

just a reminder that the past does sometimes repeat itself.

better to be reminded than to blank it out and be taken by surprise once more...

pray (or hope or keep your fingers crossed- whatever it is you chose to do) for us all.

thanks and much love
