ohhh, kathleen!! why? how? why?

as we all know, gov kathleen blanco is an idiot. she froze when hurricane katrina hit. seriously, go back and look at the footage of her and nagin calling for the mandatory evacuation. bitch looks like a dear caught in the headlights. so sad. to make matters worse, she's done a horrible job since then. she can't seem to get money from the feds and when she does she somehow manages to lose it. we all know she's not getting elected again. let's just hope it's not jindal who takes her place. (please mitch, lead us!!).

now our dear kathleen is trying to get out of testifying in a trial involving two nursing home owners charged with negligent homicide after 35 of their patients died during hurricane katrina.

the court said, 'screw you. you have to testify, you dumbass' (that's actually from the court transcripts).

the election is soon. we have to get her out of here. quickly. stay cool.

brad's back...but not to stay (i blame angelina)

so, as many of you know brad pitt and angelina jolie had a brief love affair with new orleans, buying an amazing house in the quarter and enrolling their kids in the ecole-francaise in uptown new orleans. brad was quoted many times as saying that new orleans was the best place he's ever lived, that he felt comfortable here and that he was happy helping with the green project.

for those of you who don't know about the green project it's an amazing program wherein architects (and famous people like brad) build eco-friendly homes using recyclable materials, etc. in devastated areas in new orleans. it's the eco-friendly version of habitat for humanity. for more info on it please go to this link...

it seems that our globe-trotting lothario has now come back "home" to tour a 'green' house in the lower ninth ward. yesterday he came to new orleans and went out to the barren waste land that is the ninth ward and surveyed a partially built home in the holy cross (where my brother andrew goes to school) neighborhood. the things he said are actually kind of groovy...

"We knew we couldn't bring back the families and friends that were lost, bring back the heirlooms, the pictures. But maybe in the process of rebuilding, we could build something smarter -- we could create a better way of life for the people who live there,"

the house itself is also pretty awesome in terms of its eco-friendliness. now if only all houses could be built this way...

sounds to me like brad is still doing his good work here even if he's abandoned us to live elsewhere. now if we could only lure him back into living here....

first we'll start with new orleans charities. my fovorite is save nola now. they raise money to build new homes by selling super cool clothes. buy clothes and help build a house for someone who needs it (all the clothes say things like, 'save nola now' and 'saving nola since 29 august 2005'. they have shirts and sweatshirts, all kinds of goodies!

i also like dirty coast. some of the money goes to rebuilding but mostly it's about getting the message out there that new orleans is STILL HERE. they have shirts, stickers, etc that say things like 'i am new orleans' and 'be a new orleanian wherever you are'. i really like their clothes and i think that it's important to remind people about our plight. don't let them forget!!

Carbon Neutral-- will all of the talk about global warming these days what better way to help than to offset the carbon that you use in your daily life (from driving, flying, running air conditioners, etc). offset it by donating money so that trees can be planted that will consume the carbon and give off oxygen!! it also helps that they plant things like mango trees in india so that it creates jobs as well. they also sell all kinds of eco-friendly things like this light bulb (and many more things besides!). you can't go wrong with this one!

oxfam-- we all know about make trade fair (i hope). we need to support this organization so that farmers in the third world can earn a living wage! it's not just about us, people. we have to take care of the whole world. it IS within your power! go to the site to see celebs like colin firth, minnie driver, damon albarn, gael garcia bernal, chris martin, and antonion bandaras get drenched with everything from corn to coffee to rice to cotton. who can resist colin all wet and dripping in coffee? not me!!

well, here you go!!

this is gigi. she does a lot around the office. she's very nice and has a beautiful daughter and an adorable dog (her husband's cute, too). i've seen pictures of her son and he's very handsome but i've never met him in person.

this is evelyn. she's new. she's super sweet and very smart. she has a husband whom i've never met (or seen a picture of, hmmmm). she does all of my spanish/english translation for me. i'm happy that she's come on staff. yeah for evelyn!!

this is sarai. i love me some sarai. she's very very sweet. a lot of the work also falls on her. plus, she's just really nice to talk to. she's not married and i think i might just hook her up with my little brother (awwwww). so cute, right?

ahh, to be young (and to love good fantasy literature!)

so, today i went to the birthday party of my friend aditi's daughter reva. she is one today. it was all very sweet and was a fantastic party (as they are hindu and had loads of yummy vegetarian food). i haven't seen aditi in forever because she and her husband live in baltimore and it was really nice to see her. it was also really nice to finally meet her daughter. she's a doll! really, she gives suri cruise a run for her money (and she's not even a robot!!).

that is reva with her aunt anagha (who is also a doll and not a robot). the whole thing made me feel kind of old. i remember when i was a bride's maid at aditi's wedding (4 years ago) and anagha was 11! i remember being 11 and thinking that i knew everything. thinking back on anagha at the wedding makes me realise how young she was then (especially given that she now looks 20). she's such a sweetheart and i'm not ashamed to say that we have very similar tastes in literature. i remember having long conversations with her about philip pullman's his dark materials trilogy. as some of you may know they are making a film out of the first book, the golden compass, starring nicole kidman. we are both a little skeptical about how it's going to turn out but are excited nonetheless. we've made a date to go see it. fingers crossed that it lives up to the brilliance of the book.

for those of you who haven't read it here is the synopsis courtesy of mr pullman himself--

The Golden Compass follows the ever-expanding adventure of Lyra Bacquela as she travels north in search of a kidnapped friend. The story begins in Jordan College, Oxford, where Lyra is an average eleven-year-old girl who enjoys playing with her friend, Roger. She also learns that the Dust has something to do with the snowy north.
